Genesis 30:37-43 - Tricking the Trickster
Bizarre Bible Stories
The Bible says what!? Yes, there are some pretty bizarre stories in the Bible. Whether it’s the story about Paul preaching so long that someone fell asleep and then literally fell from a three-story window to his death, or the story about one of God’s prophets who preached without clothing, these are some stories that we don’t teach children in Sunday School. Quite frankly, many adults have never heard these stories either. However, these events were recorded in the Bible for a reason. The point of our summer sermon series, Bizarre Bible Stories, is to dig into these stories and find the meaning behind them. Beautiful Savior’s goal is that, through this sermon series, you will enjoy a lot of the humor found in the Bible, some of which is hidden and some of which is not so hidden, but all of which gives us lessons for living today.
This week, we hear about Jacob and his uncle, Laban, and how both of them were deceptive in their ways. They were part of a pattern of trying to one-up each other by any means necessary. Still, the overarching thing we learn from this story is that God had a plan for Jacob’s life. Furthermore, God’s will would prevail, despite the character flaws of the people involved.
