Matthew 12:1-8 – Tough Questions of Faith: Are Christians Just Hypocrites?

Overview

There are common questions that people ask God or want to ask God but are too afraid. At Beautiful Savior, we believe that God doesn’t get angry at us for asking questions, as if questions are somehow a sign that faith is lacking. Instead, the courage and willingness to ask questions are themselves building blocks of stronger faith. Faith is like a muscle; it must be stretched and challenged in order to remain healthy and grow. The following is a list of just a few of those many questions we may want to ask God. As you read these questions, ask yourself who you know that needs to hear a topic addressed and how you might invite that person to come to worship.

This Week

We are focussing on one of the most popular stereotypes against Christians, and one of the most common reasons people say that they don’t go to worship: they believe Christians are hypocrites. In response to this comment, we can say: “Sure we are hypocrites, but so is everyone else; at least we’re trying to do something about it.” Being a hypocrite is a human trait, but what makes us different as Christians is that we are trying to work it out of our system. So, when people avoid church life because of this accusation, we could ask in response why other people don’t turn off the television or decide not to go to the mall since there are hypocrites there.
