August 28, 2022 Acts: Early Church Story “Malta: A Divinely-directed Detour”

While Paul traveled to Rome to appeal his case to Emperor Nero, his prison vessel was shipwrecked on the Island of Malta. The islanders greeted him with hospitality, and while there, he healed the father of an island leader named Publius. Tradition holds that being stranded over a winter on the island is why the whole island became follows of Jesus before almost any other large group of people. We are reminded by his story that detours in life, while sometimes frustrating and even frightening, can be part of God’s plan for good.
