G. K. Beale wrote a book entitled: “We Become What We Worship.”In this work, he argued that “what people revere, they resemble, either for ruin or restoration.” Today’s gospel reading about the widow giving all she had as an offering is an example of deep reverence and devotion to the Living God.
Offerings have the power to transform a person. That is a major reason we have an offering during worship. Offering our financial resources simultaneously frees us from idolizing money while also focusing our devotion on, and making us more like, the Living God who gives us life.
