This Series
The season of Pentecost is the season that focuses on the Holy Spirit of God coming into our lives and shaping the world for the better through us. Beginning with the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit filled the fearful disciples with courageous fire to share the good news of Jesus, we will examine many ways that the Spirit affects and empowers our lives until this day.
This Week
Today’s story reminds us that the Holy Spirit can reveal opportunities to us in unexpected places and in unexpected ways. We hear about Paul preaching in front of the Areopagus, an area for rhetorical and legal debate, in Athens. In Roman times, it also became known as “Mars Hill.” He noticed that people in the city had statues to many gods, including “an unknown god.” Paul talked about the peculiar “unknown god” statue and referenced it as a way to share about Jesus Christ.
