The season of Pentecost is the season that focuses on the Holy Spirit of God coming into our lives and shaping the world for the better through us. Beginning with the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit filled the fearful disciples with courageous fire to share the good news of Jesus, we will examine many ways that the Spirit affects and empowers our lives until this day.
This Week
Today’s story is about how the Holy Spirit liberates people from many forms of bondage. We hear about a slave girl who was possessed, which allowed her owner to profit from her. Paul cast out the demon, resulting in him and Silas being flogged and thrown in jail for depriving the slaveowner of an income. Then, an earthquake broke open the jail, potentially freeing them, which presented an opportunity for the jailer and his family to hear and believe the good news of Jesus.
