Acts 8:9-25 - Simony
Bizarre Bible Stories
The Bible says what!? Yes, there are some pretty bizarre stories in the Bible. Whether it’s the story about Paul preaching so long that someone fell asleep and then literally fell from a three-story window to his death, or the story about one of God’s prophets who preached without clothing, these are some stories that we don’t teach children in Sunday School. Quite frankly, many adults have never heard these stories either. However, these events were recorded in the Bible for a reason. The point of our summer sermon series, Bizarre Bible Stories, is to dig into these stories and find the meaning behind them. Beautiful Savior’s goal is that, through this sermon series, you will enjoy a lot of the humor found in the Bible, some of which is hidden and some of which is not so hidden, but all of which gives us lessons for living today.
This Week
We are looking into Acts 8:9-25. Some people wrongly believe that they can purchase spiritual influence. They might be able to buy religious positions of power, a practice that was rife in the Middle Ages, but that does not translate into spiritual power or authority. A man named Simon, a former magician, discovered in this reading from Acts 8:9-25 how dangerous and wrong it was to try to do so when he attempted to buy the Holy Spirit.
