Youth Ministry

Sunday School and More…

God’s children are never too young (or too old) to begin bringing the word of God into their lives. That’s why every year we enjoy offering our children a wonderful, loving environment in which to learn God’s Word.

Elementary School Offerings

Welcome to Sunday School

Preschool students are welcomed into Sunday School with the presentation of a story Bible in early September.  There is also a time for parents to learn about our education programs and practice ways to develop faith in the home.

First Bible Instruction

Once each year we offer a time for families to learn how to use their Bibles together.  Third graders are invited with their parents to attend a workshop that teaches how to find things in the Bible, ways to read the scriptures together, and some ideas on how to make the Bible a part of your daily routine.

First Communion Instruction

Students in early elementary school are invited to learn about Holy Communion during a special workshop held one Saturday during Lent.  This workshop is designed for parents and students to learn together.  We generally plan the workshop at a second grade level, however we recognize that when a child receives Holy Communion for the first time is a decision each family needs to make.  Accommodations can be made for students who are older or younger than this general age.  A conversation with the pastor may be helpful in making this decision for your child.

Elementary Summer Camp

Youth finishing third through fifth grade are invited to attend summer camp at Stony Lake Lutheran Camp.  Elementary youth will attend the same week as our Confirmation youth.  Registration begins in January*.  Visit http://www.elcalivingwater.com/ for more information on Elementary camp offerings.

Vacation Bible School and Day Camp

Beautiful Savior buzzes with excitement as children grades K-5 join us for some summer fun and faith-based learning. Kids engage in a variety of learning activities plus singing, crafts and more.

*Please note that our summer learning offerings take place during June or July.

Middle School

Youth Charge

Each year our students have the opportunity to participate in the Youth Encounter www.youthencounter.org program, Youth Charge, a faith-building, Jesus-based encounter of young people grades 6-9.

Youth Charge is held each year in Lansing, MI and provides a caring Christian learning community for tweens and teens to develop and grow their faith. Youth Charge typically takes place in Lansing, MI the first weekend in January.

Check out the Lansing Quake Facebook page for more information and to join in the conversation.

Catechism Class

Grades 7-8 learn more about their faith as they move toward affirming their baptism and becoming adult members of the congregation.  Led by the pastor and staff, this class meets on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursday evenings of the month.  The content includes material from Martin Luther’s Small Catechism as a way to integrate the foundations of faith into everyday living.

Confirmation Camp

Offered each summer in June or July, Confirmation Camp is an extension of our fall confirmation instruction and provides students the opportunity to gather in a relaxing and fun atmosphere to reconnect over the summer and deepen their relationships and confirmation studies.  Youth also have opportunities to take part in camp activities like swimming, horseback riding, canoeing, and much more. Registration begins in February for summer 2013.  Visit www.elcalivingwater.com for more information on camp programs.

Worship Service Opportunities

We encourage youth of all ages to be actively involved in our worship services. Opportunities include serving as acolytes, lesson readers, praise band, communion assistants, projection system and sound system assistants, website help, greeters, and ushers. Get creative and get involved! We are open to other ideas students have regarding worship service participation.

Monthly Spotlight Event

Each month we will have a special activity for youth of all ages and their families.  This may include things like sledding, a trip to the movies, Christmas Caroling, game night, bowling, etc.  Please let us know if you have a favorite activity that everyone might enjoy!

High School

Weekly Hot Topic

Our Senior High group enjoys their very own space that has been recently updated to include a full-size pool table, and kitchen facilities. 9th-12th graders are fun opportunities such as Cedar Point, rock climbing and more. Students choice! What would you like to do?  We also enjoy having fun while learning God’s word at 10:15 am each Sunday morning in the High School Youth Room.  Join us for great discussions on what’s in the new, what other’s are talking about in the hallways at school, and what you are hearing/seeing on social media.  We think outside the box for this group and use teaching techniques that are fun, yet interesting.  High School students will learn that God loves them, too!
